Gelato Festival World Masters Returns to Budapest

Hungary was back in the spotlight for the new season of the Gelato Festival World Masters, the international travelling competition in search of the world’s best gelato flavours. The Budapest challenge was scheduled for 18 April, with 15 gelato artisans competing for a place in the national finals in 2024.
How the challenge worked
The challenge was organised by Gelato Festival with Carpigiani Gelato University and Sigep (Italian Exhibition Group), the premier artisan gelato trade show. The tour aims to spread artisan gelato culture around the world. Competitors prepared their gelato in a kitchen provided by the organisers, and industry experts, local chefs and food journalists tasted and judged each entry. The three top flavours advanced to the Hungarian Finals of the Gelato Festival World Masters in 2024.
Where Gelato Festival began
Gelato Festival debuted in Florence in 2010, inspired by the first gelato recipe, created by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. It expanded across Italy, Europe and, from 2017, the United States, with 80 festivals held, before becoming a worldwide championship. The Gelato Festival World Masters 2021 concluded in December 2021 with a win for Adam Fazekas of Budapest, after a record 3,500 gelato artisans were judged by international juries.
