Gelato University Launches e-Taste: A Week of Distance Learning

On 26 February 2020, Carpigiani Gelato University announced e-Taste, an e-learning project opening the doors of its Bologna campus online. From 2 March, it offered one live-streamed lesson per day, with the chance to ask the gelato instructors questions.

What e-Taste offered

Each 90-minute lesson drew on the Gelato University Basic Course. People who completed all the e-courses gained access to an exclusive in-person practice session at one of the 20 Gelato University campuses, turning the virtual experience into hands-on learning.

Director Kaori Ito said the project lets anyone try the teaching approach that has produced success stories worldwide since 2003. She pointed out that thousands of former students have changed their lives through gelato and that the market still has plenty of opportunity. With global locations and e-courses, she said, the university can now offer gelato education to more people than ever, and she hoped many would come to a campus to put theory into practice.

The lesson calendar

  • 2 March: What is gelato and how to make it
  • 3 March: Enriched gelatos
  • 4 March: Fruit sorbets and balancing
  • 5 March: Milk-based gelatos and balancing
  • 6 March: Gelato sticks and jars

Sign-up was free through the Gelato University website, and podcasts of the lessons were available from 9 to 31 March 2020 for anyone who missed the live sessions.
