Gelato Festival World Masters Stops at GastroCanarias, Tenerife

The Canary Islands hosted the second Spanish stop of the new Gelato Festival World Masters season, the travelling competition in search of the world’s best gelato flavours. The challenge was scheduled for 23 May at the GastroCanarias trade show in Tenerife (Recinto Ferial de Santa Cruz, booths 347-350), where 15 gelato artisans were set to compete for a place in the national finals in 2024.
How the challenge worked
The Gelato Festival World Masters Challenge was organised in collaboration with Sigep, Italian Exhibition Group. Competitors prepared their gelato in a kitchen provided by the organisers. Industry experts, local chefs and food journalists then tasted and judged the entries, and the three top flavours advanced to the Spanish Finals of the Gelato Festival World Masters in 2024.
Thirteen years of Gelato Festival
The 2022-2025 edition marks the thirteenth year of the Gelato Festival World Masters. The event began in Florence in 2010 as a local competition inspired by Bernardo Buontalenti’s first gelato recipe in 1559. It then spread across Italy and Europe, reached the United States in 2017 and became a global championship. The 2017-2021 edition involved more than 3,500 gelato makers and was won by Adam Fazekas of Budapest.
