Two tons of gelato, then on to Turin

Over two days Rome tasted almost two tons of artisan gelato. Besides the competing flavours there were gelato by Massimiliano Scotti for Air Italy, flavours from the Italian Gelato Makers Association led by Eugenio Morrone, Sicilian specialities from Elenka and a cooking show by chef Massimo Viglietti.

The festival is organised with strategic partners Carpigiani and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group, with Air Italy as global partner and Intesa Sanpaolo as top sponsor in Italy. Next stop was Turin’s Piazza Vittorio Veneto on 27 and 28 April, then Piazza Cannone in Milan on 4 and 5 May. Tastings, themed activities and workshops took place in three 13-metre food trucks, including the “Buontalenti”, described as the largest mobile gelato production laboratory in the world.

From the end of May the tour moved abroad: Berlin (1-2 June), Warsaw (8-9 June), Baden near Vienna (19-20 June), London (29-30 June) and Barcelona (6-7 July).

About the Gelato Festival

The festival debuted in Florence in 2010, inspired by the first gelato recipe by architect Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. It spread across Italy, then Europe, and from 2017 the United States, reaching 64 festivals before launching the Gelato Festival World Masters 2021 world championship.
