Gelato Festival World Ranking: Mapping the Best Gelato Artisans

In 2019 the Gelato Festival introduced a permanent world standing for gelato makers: the Gelato Festival World Ranking. Updated every year, it lines up artisans from around the globe by their results.

What the ranking is

The ranking was created as part of the event’s 10th anniversary celebrations. Its aim is to identify the best artisan gelato makers worldwide and, over time, to map the more than 100,000 gelato shops operating across the world.

Who is included

  • Artisans who competed at the Gelato Festival over the previous 10 years.
  • Everyone who took part in the Gelato World Tour, a partner of the festival.
  • Makers still competing for a place in the final of the Gelato Festival World Masters 2021, the main international individual competition.

In its first year the ranking formed a “Top40” of absolute excellence. Artisans collect points at each event, and those points decide their position. Particularly high scores are rewarded with “crowns”, from one up to a maximum of five.

The launch drew coverage from Italian media including Ansa, La Nazione and SkyTg24. You can find out more on the official Gelato Festival World Ranking page.
