Gelato Festival World Masters Returns to Prague

The Czech Republic was in the spotlight for the third year in a row on the Gelato Festival World Masters tour, the international travelling competition in search of the world’s best gelato flavours. The challenge took place on 3 December 2024 at the headquarters of Almeco, organised with the country’s Carpigiani distributor. Fifteen gelato artisans were due to compete for a place in the 2025 Czech Finals.

How the challenge worked

The Gelato Festival Challenge is run by Gelato Festival in collaboration with Carpigiani and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group. On the day, the chefs prepared their gelato in a kitchen provided by the organisers, and industry experts, local chefs and food journalists tasted and judged each entry. The top three flavours would go through to the Czech Finals of the Gelato Festival World Masters in 2025.

The championship behind it

The 2022-2025 edition is the fifteenth year of the Gelato Festival World Masters. It debuted as “Gelato Festival”, a local competition in Florence in 2010, inspired by the first gelato recipe devised by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. It spread across Italy and Europe and, from 2017, to the United States, before becoming a worldwide championship that involved more than 3,500 gelato makers in the 2017-2021 edition.
