Gelato Festival World Masters Opens in São Paulo, Brazil

The first South American stage of the new Gelato Festival World Masters tour took place in São Paulo on 25 and 26 October. Called the Carpigiani Challenge, it brought together the best gelato artisans in Brazil, each competing with their strongest flavour.

How the Carpigiani Challenge worked

The 2022-2025 championship is organised by Gelato Festival with Carpigiani Gelato University and Sigep, Italian Exhibition Group, as strategic partners. The São Paulo round was held at the headquarters of a local Carpigiani partner. Competitors prepared their gelato in a laboratory provided by the organisers, and industry experts, local chefs and food journalists then tasted and judged each entry. The three top flavours qualified for the Brazilian Final of the Gelato Festival World Masters, scheduled for 2025.

Thirteen years of Gelato Festival

The 2022-2025 edition marks the thirteenth year of the event. It started in Florence in 2010 as a local competition inspired by the first gelato recipe, created by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. It then spread across Italy and Europe, reached the United States in 2017, and became a worldwide championship, the Gelato Festival World Masters. The previous 2017-2021 edition involved more than 3,500 gelato makers.
