Gelato Festival World Masters Heads to Lillestrøm, Norway

Norway was the second European stop of 2023 for the Gelato Festival World Masters tour, the championship searching for the world’s best gelato flavours. The Carpigiani Challenge took place on 16 February at the UMAMI exhibition in Lillestrøm.

How the day worked

The local Carpigiani distributor hosted 11 gelato artisans from Norway and Denmark, each competing with their best flavour. Competitors prepared their gelato in a laboratory supplied by the organisers. Industry experts, local chefs and food journalists then tasted and judged every entry.

The three top flavours were set to move on to the European final of Gelato Festival World Masters, planned for 2025 at Carpigiani’s headquarters in Bologna, Italy.

Behind the championship

The 2022-2025 championship is organised by Gelato Festival with Carpigiani Gelato University and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group as strategic partners. Gelato Festival launched in Florence in 2010 as a local contest inspired by Bernardo Buontalenti’s first gelato recipe of 1559. It has since grown across Italy, Europe and, from 2017, the United States. The 2017-2021 edition drew more than 3,500 gelato makers worldwide.
