Gelato Festival Baden 2019: Celal Karaarslan Wins with Hazelnut Dream

On 19 and 20 June in Josephplatz in Baden, near Vienna, visitors young and old tasted 11 flavours from 11 gelato artisans and voted for their favourite. Audience votes combined with jury scores to decide the winner.
The results
- 1st place, “Hazelnut Dream”: a gelato classic made with Mediterranean hazelnuts, refined with chocolate and cherries, by Celal Karaarslan of Gelateria Karaarslan in Zell am See near Salzburg. He had already won Gelato Festival Austria 2018.
- 2nd place, “Wolke7”: an extravagant elderflower and peppermint creation garnished with strawberry jam, by Katarina Rankovic of the Kolibri gelato factory in Wolfurt. The herbs and strawberries come from her own garden. She is also a veteran winner, having represented Germany in the Gelato World Tour in 2014, and her flavour received the most visitor votes.
- 3rd place, “Yoghurt Natur mit Pistazien”: a refreshing creation using yoghurt from Lower Austria and Sicilian pistachios, by gelato pastry chef Vincent Gava of the Dolce Vita gelato shop in Hohenems.
- Expert jury award: “Etneo”, a pistachio gelato variation with dark chocolate, by Santo Palamara of Eiscafe Zio Santo Gelato in Munich.
